Sharing lists with others outside your organization
I recently decided to finally move from Wunder to To-do .
It is a work account but I also have some personal lists to share with my wife (Ie.g. groceries).
How do I share lists with her? if I invite her she gets an error as she is not part of my work organization /group.
Do I need two separate accounts or something (ugh) - how would that work in the app?
- BinoshCopper ContributorI have the same question. We have switched to ToDo and cannot share list outside org.
- David75Copper ContributorHi, can anyone advise if/when MS will fix this issue. Also know a number of people who have suffered the same frustrations not being able to share outside of their domain. Would like to know if this will be fixed as last posts I could find suggested it should be but are from 2020. Thanks

Unfortunately no.... and don't have anything from MS that I have seen.
They have made it a bit easier to switch accounts... and you can have a browser in one account and the app in another. Not great - app needs a lot of work, some improvements have been made but looks like it is a low priority for them for some reason. Very disappointing, buying a competitor and then crushing the innovation.

You are correct. You cannot currently share lists outside your organization. We've voiced this concern (loudly) and MS seems to be listening and have promised an end-of-March 2020 implementation of being able to share with others with an @Outlook account. Not ideas, but it's free and should work.
After that, they plan to open it up like Wunderlist was. No date on that.
Yes, this is a serious drawback and our company was looking at other tools if they don't fix it (ToDoist is the front runner).
We have thousands at our company waiting to convert until this is reconciled.

This is horrible. So MS has announced the shutdown of Wunderlist, yet there is no way to share outside of the ToDo org. Just terrible MS.
- henrymatterCopper ContributorHey, has anyone had an update on this, being April now Im wondering if this has been implemented and I've missed it or the target date has been missed?
thanks!- rhendrikBrass Contributor
Thanks for asking. I have not heard updates and it's still not working. Several of us have been trying and not hearing from Microsoft. Also, note there are TWO suggestions for this to be opened up, so please VOTE ON BOTH. They're also not combining the two suggestions which would be the best way.

I'm with you on this. This is beyond annoying that I am forced to switch but cannot share my list. May be forced to switch products/apps if MS can't figure this out.

I found a good workaround, if you want to share a list with someone outside your ogranization, let him or her create the list from her side and share the list with you by creating a link and sending it to you via mail or WhatsApp or whatever.
I tried it and worked for me till Microsoft changes their minds about the issue.I hope this solution would help
i found a solution too. I stopped using MS ToDo for family and started using ToDoIst. I now have 2 apps, one for home sharing and one for work. Todoist was easy to integrate to my Alexa shopping list too
- Robert RowellCopper ContributorThe more I use it the more I realize that Microsoft 365 is not the environment to collaborate with clients/customers/vendors etc. It is quite unfortunate to have all this power with 365 and still have to resort to Google and other online services to actually be able to get things done.
- TQFordBrass ContributorThanks, of course if you do that you cant sync to the MS account Outlook calendar, and i cant change that (mandated).

This does now work if you share from the personal account to the organisation account. However, testing this this afternoon it only seems to sync 1 way. As in the personal account can add items, complete them etc. but the organisation account can only view. You can't add items that the personal account can see and you can't complete any. If that's correct, what's the point of that??
Can Microsoft update please?
Thanks

If you create the list on the account that is the personal one, then share with the person inside the organization, it works. It doesn't work the other way. All of my shared lists with my wife are this way. We're headed out grocery shopping now, and it works like a charm:-) sdimond

I'm using Microsoft 365 business for personal use and I'm some perfectionist. I'm not using MS To Do and this distorts my experience with online Outlook. Thus, I'm thinking seriously of moving from Microsoft 365 because of this!
