Searching for TO DO tasks in Outlook
I feel like I must be missing someting and have searched through posts but can't find the answer. I have been using Microsoft To Do (and love it). But now that it is available via Outlook, I can't seem to search my tasks. Any advice? I have used the search bar at the top, which brings up emails, but not tasks. Thank you.
- Nazli1995Copper ContributorI have the same issue and would really like MS to address this to increase functionality of the To-do app.
Here are the details from the Roadmap:
New Outlook for Windows - Search tasks using Microsoft To Do
Search across your task lists using the Microsoft To-Do module in Outlook on the web and the new Outlook for Windows, which will be available worldwide in March 2024 (Preview Users) & April 2024 (General Availability).
I am a preview user. I tested it and searched for a task in the To-Do. The functionality is available as Apr 10th.
1. From Outlook, click on the To Do icon from the left navigation. The app opens in the desktop client.
2. In the search bar, type the keyword. Notice that the location changes to an App instead of an Outlook mailbox or folder.
3. Your search results are returned.
If you find this information helpful, please mark it as the best response, which will assist others with the same question.

This does not work for me. The default is searching my inbox, even though I am in the ToDo screen and the only filters I can apply are for mailbox folders. The search does not find any tasks or terms that only appear in my ToDo tasks and not my emails.
The only way I can search in my ToDo is to open ToDo as a separate app outside of Outlook.
even then it doesn't work properly. As soon as I type one character in the search box the search is done, so I add the rest of the keyword in the address bar which then works as it should.
I work for an employer that doesn't allow other task management programs to be integrated, so I'm stuck with this broken edition of ToDo until Microsoft decides to fix it.
- michelemizeCopper ContributorHas this seriously been an issue since May of last year? I am just now on this version and am mortified at the changes. The search bar at the top of the desktop app window does nothing but search EMAILS, not tasks. How is this even an issue that Microsoft hasn't addressed since May of 2023? I will be converting my tasks to another software that is more user friendly and will work like the previous version of MS Outlook Tasks. Bye, bye Microsoft!

This is incredibly fustrating and shocked Microsoft havent worked on this. A search option is essential.

Phillip_AT_Jones I have the same issue. It is incredbily frustrating and I am leaving this comment in the hope that Microsoft bring this feature back ASAP. It is taking an age and should be one of the most fundamental requirements for any task management list. Come on Microsoft, let's get it together shall we. I'll be reverting to Copilot AI to create an option soon! Much more responsive!

It's beyond ridiculous.
Microsoft need to adress this non-sense ASAP.
Once again, Microsoft skipping obvious basic behaviors in favor of fancy new tricks. Legendary in that matter for many decades. Search engine already existing inside the application, just not 'enable' when use within Outlook. - Martin_LaroucheCopper Contributor

I was basically told by Support, "No we don't have that feature currently but it's a good idea."
really? do you think? It's a key feature we had in the old app that has not been built in the new.
Who knows if or when they may add to Outlook. but for me, without it, it makes the Outlook version pretty useless.

Your response sums it up perfectly! I am still using the web version for exactly that reason. Maybe they think that most people only have a handful of tasks that they can see in one window?!?

traceyg22 I have the same issue. I have not been able to find a way to search so have to go back to the separate ToDo app to search. Not ideal, and limits my use of the Outlook version.

To this date still waiting for a Solution! I have gone back to using my TO DO Desktop version
