Group by Category disappeared
I have been flagging emails in Outlook and adding a Category with the name of someone who is responsible to deal with the content of that email. This gets automatically added to To Do and when I move it from my flagged email list to a proper list, I have been able to group all of these email tasks by Category. It's been working great and my team can see their own tasks easily by grouping by Category. For some reason, this option disappeared yesterday and I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how I can get the Group By Categories option back or where else I should look for it?

dennis2270 Losing this is extremely disappointing and makes Todo almost unusable for high volume task management. Please bring this back Pernille-Eskebo
- Group By made this app useful. My Task list is a mess without it.
I'm using the clunky Outlook workaround (doesn't show flagged emails, or assigned tasks from planner), but am worried about being forced to NewLookOutlook, where we lose this workaround and so much more.
Please fix this mistake.
(Ohh, and a reply about what your plans are wouldn't go a miss either) - Temporary solution for those missing this feature (from a fellow user):
In Outlook, go to View then click on To-Do Bar and ensure that the Tasks view is enabled. You should see your tasks on the right hand side. On top of this list, there is a setting called "Arrange by:". Click on that, then click on View Settings. Click on the second button, which is Group By. Unclick "Automatically group according to arrangement".
Finally, in the Group items by, select Due Date. And in the Then by section, select Categories. Click OK.
This custom setup will bring back the group by categories function, if only in Outlook... good luck.- This worked for me in one go.. Thanks for sharing the workaround.
toleanne Thanks for the feedback. I can't really figure out how to do what you're saying. To get the ToDo bar in my Outlook Desktop, I have to flip the switch that says "Try the new Outlook". But when I do that and hit the ToDo bar it just opens up ToDo on the web. When I select Tasks on the left site menu there is no option to Arrange By. There is a Sort button on the upper right, but that doesn't have
But I'm guessing this solution would not allow me to share the task list with others and have them be able to sort it by Category. The only reason I was using ToDo was because you can share the list. Unfortunately, without Group by Category, it's useless to me. I feel like the feature was added recently and then deleted recently. I sure hope MS is planning to bring it back.

dennis2270 I can't believe this is gone, single best use for this app. Please bring it back. This is really messing up my work flow.
- I just noticed it this morning too! Microsoft, this was the ONLY functionality that made your todo app even remotely useful for running David Allen's Getting Things Done (GDT) method. Please add it back or I will be forced to use another app. Also, add it to the mobile app as well.
- It's missing for me also! I was wondering if I did something to mess it up or if this is on Microsoft's side. I relied on this function to better organize my tasks.
- Adding to the comments here in hope they will fix this. Just started using to-do as way to organize my emails and found group by category incredibly powerful. Has become almost useless without it as my tasks are a mess and its basically become another unorganized email. Really want them to bring this basic feature back.
- Same, the "group by: Category" was the single best way to organize the tasks for the day. Now I need to copy and paste it elsewhere? Or use the star? (but that's limiting) Please bring it back!!
dennis2270 I encountered the same issue this morning. Sorting by categories is my main way of using the To-Dos, but I cannot find this option now.
Has it been moved or removed?
- The same happened to me, it disappeared yesterday. I used that feature all the time because it allowed to separate my tasks in different sections. I have a company account so I thought it was only for my company but apparently it happened for personal users too.
Please bring it back.
