I've been dealing with an update from Windows 10 to 11, the last few weeks & MFA added the chaos. I had to re-set my password at least 5 times over 3 weeks, so I am very familiar with IT and the MS help menus. You are able to remove MFA from a phone you no longer have. I took a screenshot & I am pretty sure it'll bring you to the MS Support MFA FAQ page that provides much more detail. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/microsoft-authenticator-faqs-12d283d1-bcef-4875-9ae5-ac360e2945dd
