Why do some sites show title images from creation and others don't?

Hi Timparsons.. I'm not sure what are all the steps that you have followed to create an image with full column width but we can select by choosing the "Section Layout" --> Full-width-column option to display the image in full width. I have attached the screenshot for your reference.

Yeh, I chose a full-width column, then added an image webpart.

Can you see the difference in the 2 images? One stretches to the edges, the other one doesn't. I tried different sized images but none would go edge to edge.

  I just read that communication sites don't allow for the full width option. If this is true, then it brings me to another problem. When I use a communication site, I can't create a navigation menu on the left, but on team sites, I can. Am I missing something?
