Why can't I disable the SharePoint PDF previewer?

blahb1345 I feel your pain on this one - a major issue with our company. It changed to this behavior around 5 months ago for us. I've submitted a UserVoice for it and also discussed with the internal Microsoft teams, but no resolution as yet and nothing planned from Microsoft as far as we can see.
Feel free to vote up the UserVoice (and anybody else) to see if we can get some further traction on it.
