Who can share a folder and how to avoid people to share folder
Hi,
I want to know who (access) can share a folder/file to other users.
I have an issue, i want to follow all the access in a SharePoint, but i found that a user in the default group Member (with edit access) can share a folder that is not share to a specific user. How can i counter the share option (link and share) for regular user (member/Edit access)
Thanks
goose1270 If you want to modify the sharing capability. Best way is to change who can share site, lists, & files.
You should have SCA rights to do this.
OPen site > Gear symbol on top right > Site permissions > Site sharing > Change how memebrs can share > Based on your requirement you need to select 3rd option.

Which setting are you referring to?
I can't seem to find which setting you're referring to. Is this because I'm not a SharePoint Content Administrator?

TO get who can share option, the site must load in Modern UI.
From cog symbol > site permissions > SIte sharing.

Hi goose1270
In SharePoint, there are certain user roles and permissions that determine who can share a folder or file with others. By default, members of the "Member" group have edit access and can share items. To prevent regular users with edit access from sharing folders or files, you can follow these steps:
- Sign in to SharePoint with administrative privileges.
- Go to the site where the folder or file is located.
- Click on the gear icon and select "Site Settings."
- Under "Users and Permissions," click on "Site permissions."
- Find the "Member" group and click on it to edit the group's permissions.
- Locate the permission level for members (e.g., "Contribute" or "Edit").
- In the permission level settings, disable the option related to sharing.
- Save the changes to apply the updated permissions.
By disabling the sharing option for the "Member" group, regular users will no longer be able to share folders or files with others in SharePoint.
- goose1270Copper ContributorThank you for your response. However, I was unable to locate the option for sharing. It's possible that I am not in the correct location. I attempted to find it in the URL "*MySiteURL*/_layouts/15/editrole.aspx?role=Edit".
