Which template shall I use for Document Management in SPO?
Generally everything at the moment fits into the modern Team and Communication sites, and to be honest I can't think of any advantages of using the classic document center template over the modern ones. It used to be that they were intended for large numbers of documents, however with the document and item limits in SPO reaching an extraordinary level, I would be looking at utilising the new sites.

Hi Matt Weston,
For modern template, does the team site template is most suitable for document management and the departmental sites?
The document and item limits are not same between document center template and modern team site template? Coz the modern document library and list are applied to document center template also.
Currently I am SharePoint Admin but not for Office 365 Admin, does it able to generate the modern template? This is because the modern template may need to create office 365 account which is beyond my privilege to create it.
Please advice.
Thanks.

Document Center templates are a special purpose site that are typically intended for use as long term repositories and not for day-to-day collaboration. There would typically be only one Document Center in a tenant. I would recommend using the group enabled modern team sites that can be created from the SharePoint home page or the new SPO admin center

Does it able to convert document center template to modern team site as there have a few prod sites (document center) have been provisioned?
