Web part page content type changing to Wiki Page

When I create a web part page in the "Site pages" library of SharePoint Online, the content type is displayed as "Web Part Page". If I check-out the file and either check-in the file or discard the check-out, the content type changes to "Wiki Page". The actual content type ID is set to the Wiki page ID. Is this normal behavior?
