View Only and Read permissions cannot access SharePoint site

On one of my SharePoint sites, the View Only and Read permissions cannot view the site. It gives them an access denied. I don't want to give them Editor access since the users in that specific group only need to read content on the site. How can I edit the site permissions so View Only and Read permissions can access the SharePoint site?

  • Hi Gregorio,

If your SharePoint site is a "Team site", it will have an associated Microsoft 365 group. Please add the users as "Site visitors". The SharePoint site (and document libraries) will inherit permissions from the associated Microsoft 365 group.

admin.microsoft.com > Teams & groups > Active teams & groups > Microsoft 365 tab > Select the group > Membership tab > Site visitors > Add the users

I always advise my customers to manage permissions at the Microsoft 365 group level as much as possible.

Thank you Mathieu for the assistance! It was a mix of this and a Form that was not inheriting the main Site permissions, so it did not inherit the new group created.
