Users can't create sites anymore
Since 9th February 2022 our users can no longer create sites from the SharePoint online root site. Instead of asking them if they want a "Teams" site or a "Communication" site it is trying to create ...
- Microsoft Support have informed me they fixed the issue by running some diagnostics repair on our tenant with one of their tools.

I have tried a lot of things to fix this but to no avail.
To answer your questions:
I have allowed creation of sites...
All users see the "+Create Site" link on the SharePoint start page but they get the error when clicking it. The exception to this is users who have edit access to the home site - these users are asked to create a team subsite and it allows that. The other exception is SharePoint admins click the link and it behaves as it should asking which type of site to create.

I've had a ticket open with Microsoft for a whole week trying to figure this out and I just checked it today, and it's working as it should. The past consecutive 7 days it didn't work but has miraculously fixed itself over night!
