Rob...Yes I have a standard subscription and can confirm that the image gallery modern web part is exactly as you show below.

Thanks Steve - so I wonder why the 2 other tenants I have checked are still showing the old version - it would be good to know if there is a changelog / deployment status published somewhere for all the OOB webparts.

Generally it takes time to propagate the changes worldwide. Monitor the admin center for changes that have been applied to your tenant.

    OK, apologies for bumping this old thread. Yesterday I created a communications site in a standard release tenant, and I've found that it still does not have the updated image gallery Web part.
    
    Sounds like it's time for a ticket...
