Unable to change URL for sites in SharePoint Admin Center
I'm seeing the option to change site URLs as grayed out recently. There is a message stating "The address for this type of site can't be changed". I've tried this on communication sites, team sites with and without connection to Microsoft 365 groups. It looks like it is this way for all sites on my tenant. I've definitely done this before, but it was probably at least a few months ago. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? Thanks!
Hi, I know this is a few months late for you, but thought I would add this as we've seen the same issue with one particular SharePoint site this morning. Nothing that we could do within the Site or SharePoint Admin Center... but my colleague did use PowerShell to force the URL change and it worked.

This worked for me as well. Thank you!
In case anyone needs it, here's the documentation for how to do this with PowerShell: Change a site address using PowerShell | Microsoft Learn

Hi GullettBrian ,
i think the error message at the top is the reason.
"This site has a compliance policy to block deletion"
Renaming the site should work once you exclude that site from the retention policy in the compliance admin center.

I'll have to partner with our security team to test that out. Thanks for the tip!
