Tagging a file in Sharepoint

If you are talking about Tags like the classic tag feature, this has been retired in SharePoint online.
So it let's me tag certain files but not others at this stage? I'm not in Classic Sharepoint
Ah okay, so just applying metadata to your items.
Are the items the same content type?No, they're all different but all either Microsoft files or PDFs. However, don't think it's due to the file type since some powerpoint files won't tag and some will. Could it be file size?
