Suggestions on creating a company home page
My goal is to create an Intranet Home that our users would be encouraged to use as their home page. This would be Modern UI, allowing us to create a more dynamic and engaging home page for announcements, company status, etc.
We are using SharePoint Online.
Hurdles (so far):
- Clicking the "SharePoint" waffle option take us to <company>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx
- Is it possible to reconfigure the redirection of this click?
- <company>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx appears to be the only place that I can do a truly global search from.
- Anything outside of <company>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx appears to be limited to that site (or collection of sites, if a hub)
- The site "<company>.sharepoint.com" is provisioned as a "Team Site (Classic Experience)" - therefore going to <company>.sharepoint.com/SitePages.Home.aspx provides a classic document library view
- Is it possible to change this from Classic to Modern in order to allow me to develop this new page here? Or should I just accept that I'm going to have to create a new site for this?
- Will all of my troubles be solved when Home Sites become available?
I'm not sure that what I'm trying to achieve is currently possible. Suggestions/best practice tips very much appreciated.

JH141494I wish I had a better answer for you friend, but I think your answers are indeed coming soon with the launch of the SharePoint Home Site.
