SPD Workflow in SP Online: 2010 vs. 2013

Nope, your experience is about on par, the 2010 workflow engine in my experience has been more robust. I would honestly look at flow for the workflows, but flow isn't 100% there yet for replacement IMO when it comes to account management etc. on flows due to it not being able to run under a system account like SPD WF's do.
