Sharepoint vs Teams

Hi,

In my organisation we have just started using the 365 tools. Many of my colleagues have already created Teams for different purposes. We would like to also have a SharePoint communication site - but I would like to connect the MS Teams to this site. I am a bit worried that we loose the overview of files and activities, if we don't have a place where everything is connected and structured.

How do I create a SharePoint site structure, where all our MS Teams are also included?

  • Well first things first you cannot associate a communication site to a Team so you can’t lose those links because it’s not possible to change the site to begin with :).

That said. You can use your team connected sites as private sites and make them just like comm sites minus the obvious top nav template.

What I do at my org is use Teams and the connected sites as everyone’s Private department sites. And use communication sites as org facing sites that everyone has access to and connect them all to a hub to roll up content and news for the whole org. We also create communication sites for project communication sites for metrics goals etc. for the org to see but teams and the private sites connected for the actual project.

You can also always link files from the comm sites as tabs to the related teams for fast links over to those sites for people to work with and add content to those as well.

Thanks for the replies - I am happy to hear that it is possible. But how do I do it? Is there a tutorial somewhere that you could recommend? I am using Linkedin Learning for training in the 365 tools.

Hi Anne, Some of my fellow community members might give you more detail than I can right now but the good news is that Office 365 Groups integrate Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and other Office 365 services such as Planner together. When you provision a Communication Site it is not Group enabled however connecting a Microsoft Team backed by a SharePoint Team and making your Communication Site a Hub Site will enable your core scenario. In short, all the plumbing you need is there! Sorry for the brevity a bit time constrained today!
