SharePoint Teams Site doesn't have a Teams option

I inherited a SharePoint Teams site, but there is no option to connect to Teams.

There is no, Add real-time chat in the lower-left corner of the home page, or in the “Next Steps” panel at the top right section of the team site. No link to the Teams channel in the site navigation. 

I don't know where to look. Can you help me?

    Listed as a 'Site Owner' should have been enough, but when the system admin visited the site - they I gave me the added permission of 'Site Collection Admin' -that must have done it because I now have the option to connect a Microsoft 365 group to my SharePoint site.
