Sharepoint sync without onedrive

Is it possible to sync Sharepoint without using OneDrive?

An if not so, where are the synced files saved? Is it only on c-drive or also somewhere in the cloud?

  • OneDrive client only. It syncs to a folder named after your org name on your user profile. If you have files on demand by havingnlatest OneDrive client and windows 10 1709 you can choose to not have local copies of the files until accessing them. The files are stored on Sharepoint (cloud) but not in OneDrive or anywhere else. If you have old OneDrive or other than latest windows 10 all files are synced to your local drive. However you can selectively choose which folders to sync.

This all assumes you have SharePoint online. If it’s on prem your only option is groove OneDrive client included with Office install. This doesn’t have on demand or selective sync options and isn’t very reliable client.

      Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your reply. We're using on premise with OneDrive for business. And indeed it's not really a stable client, but it works. The only thing I fear that the documents my users sync stay within our company and do not go to a kind of a big Microsoft cloud.

      Regards,

      Arno

They aren't going to Microsoft at all if you aren't using Office 365 at all. If you have an account, without some form of Intune or other local DLP type software you can't prevent that behavior from a manual (user) perspective of copying that data out to another service. But nothing will automatically save your On-Prem stuff to the cloud.
