SharePoint still blocked after purchasing Office 365 Extra File Storage

Hi everyone,

Our organization reached the SharePoint Online storage limit. To resolve the issue, we purchased and activated 2 TB of Office 365 Extra File Storage more than 12 hours ago.

The storage increase is already visible in the SharePoint Admin Center, but users are still unable to save, upload, or sync files and continue to receive storage-related errors.

Has anyone experienced this after expanding SharePoint storage? Is there any additional action required to remove storage restrictions?

Thank you!

  • Because the additional 2 TB already appears in your SharePoint admin center, check the affected sites’ quotas and lock states before purchasing more capacity. Increasing the tenant pool does not necessarily increase a manually configured site quota. In Active sites, compare each site’s storage usage and limit, and check whether your tenant uses automatic or manual storage management. Increase the site allocation if manual limits are still exhausted. Next, have a SharePoint Administrator inspect the site’s LockState with Get-SPOSite. If sufficient capacity is available but the site remains ReadOnly, the administrator can use Set-SPOSite with LockState Unlock after confirming why it was locked. Test a small upload directly in-browser before troubleshooting OneDrive sync. Storage usage reports can lag by 24–48 hours; that is not a guaranteed unlock deadline. If the restrictions persist despite adequate quotas, open a support case with the purchase confirmation and affected site details.
