SharePoint Search Bar Results Not Displaying News Posts in Correct Order
I have about 14 site collections that are all tied to a hub for our company Intranet. We have individuals in our Marketing department that will post news about our products, and our sales reps and other executives will use the search bar frequently to retrieve "blog" (news) posts.
I get emails every few months from our executive team asking why the SharePoint search bar is not working correctly, then I have to try to dig into what they mean. Bottom line is that when someone does a SharePoint search and then filters down the results to the type "News", the Last Modified date can be all over the place. Sometimes it will show the news posts in correct chronological order, sometimes there will be news posts from 2022 mixed in with 2023, some months are out of order, and this can all change from doing a search and then doing the same search 15 mintues later (I've witness it myself).
So this is certainly a bug in the SharePoint search. Our news posts should be sorting in chronological order by Published Date, and it's hit or miss as to if they do. Looking for any feedback to others that have noticed this. Here are two of my searches 15 minutes apart from each other, and as you can see the same search produces two different lists of results. I'm getting grilled by my company to fix this when it's a Microsoft problem.
Edit: Another tidbit, the results can display differently for different users doing the same search.
