SharePoint Product and Service Announcements at the SharePoint Conference

As most people in this Community know Microsoft plans a major SharePoint Conference in May. All the signs are that significant announcements will be made for both cloud and on premises versions of SharePoint.

In purely on premises times, large scale releases and fewer channels to market made these events popular and significant.

Today, though, I have a concern. As far as I can tell, not even all the announcements made at Ignite 2017 have reached production. Significant updates have arrived and communication with Microsoft is the best I can recall and yet I feel that now the cadence of announcements is beginning to outstrip delivery.

Some of this results in rough edges in features, particularly around management capabilities. Sometimes the announcement to delivery feels too elastic from imminent to months away..

I sense that Microsoft wants to deliver an SPC in May which will be another step change in features and functionality but somehow I feel we need a change in how this is being delivered.

I think my understanding is incomplete because I cannot know what’s planned. How do others feel? To me it’s not the volume of change but the comms methods. How could this be improved?

But to answer how I feel I think they do a decent job. The only complaint I have is the cadence that something is released or you can do x now, when in reality it's still weeks away from Targeted release deployment.

Following the main products on twitter keeps you in the know fairly well. They have done a much better job of putting the changes in as admin messages as well.

      Thanks for your replies Christopher.

I guess to summarise my thinking better I’m not so convinced now around the larger announcements and the need for them.

I’d rather see monthly statements, rather like the overall Office 365 ones with lots of detail and support. Currently, as you point out, the delivery can be weeks away. In respect of still to be delivered items both LinkedIn integration and Bing for business still need to show up from small scale rollout or private preview.

What features have not come out since ignite? The only thing I know of that hasn't and should be out soon is Site Activity page update. Everything else seems to be released and if not then they still have over a month to go for SPC.
