SharePoint Online's Root Site

We audited our SharePoint Online logs and found that when users visit their Root Site of SharePoint ( ex: https://OURTENANT.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/sharepoint.aspx  ), they are logged as "PageViewed" onto the pages which are shown in "News from Sites" on the Root Site even though they Do Not click and visit the pages.

Is this possible?
