SharePoint online navigation stop working

Hi all

We've run into a strange issue with navigation on a fairly simple modern SharePoint Online site. On initial page load the it works fine and navigation using the menu or links on pages works. However going a bit back and forth on the page suddenly renders navigation impossible. In most cases this seems to be caused by client side caching (we think).

Have tried to capture the shortest way to reproduce in the below gif - basically one have to refresh the page to make it work again.

 Any help much appreciated.
