SharePoint Online and Access 2016

Hi There, 

I have encountered something I have never seen before, a client using Access 2016 and they store all of their content in SharePoint Online. They open it on their computer using file-sync but every time they open and close it, it creates a new version. 

Is there a best practice for storing Access files in SharePoint online, or is it one of those ... don't ever do this 😉!
