SharePoint Online & Office 365 Backup & Restore Settings.

Hi

I am updating some architecture and design documentation on the subject of restoring deleted items on SharePoint Online.

Does the following sound reasonable:

  •  Microsoft fully backs up each site collection, every 12 hours with each backup retained for 14 days. This means within the 14 days window,  restoration can be done for entire Site Collection to a point or date in the request.
  • The default period for a deleted item in ODFB In the first recycle bin is 30 days. This can be increased to a maximum of ??  days.
  •  A Site Recycle Bin stores deleted documents, list items, versions, lists and libraries for a 90 days or until a user manually deletes or restores them from the Recycle Bin
  • After 90 days the remaining  Items  in the first Recycle Bin are move into a Second stage recycle bin are kept for 90 days from when they are added there, so items automatically deleted from a Site recycle bin will be available to administrators for a total of 180s days before being automatically deleted for the final time.

  • My two cents here:
    - Recycle bin for both SPO and ODFB keep content for 93 days.
    - 93 days period applies for both first and second level in the recycle bin, i.e, you don't have 93 days for first level + 93 days for second level
