As you say, this appears related to the switch they are making from Site Designs to Site Templates in terminology and also updating the UI to apply templates. I would raise a ticket but I suspect they are aware of this and have temporarily removed the integration at creation until they figure out a way to add it back in.
I can see this discussion was started in September 2021 but I am visiting in the year 2023 to check if this dropdown option, to select template white site creation, is disabled permanently?
