SharePoint Online - Content Type vs. View
Hi Community,
I'm new to SharePoint and confused about Content Type and Views. Here is how I understand Content Type and View -
Content Type is a group of document library columns (or metadata). For example, an content type called "Invoice" contains column Date, Invoice Number, Vendor.
View provides a way to show filtered, sorted, or grouped columns in a list or library. For example, I can create a view called "Invoice" that only includes column Date, Invoice Number, Vendor.
If my understanding is correct, Content Type is just like View where it saves the selected or filtered metadata. I know Content Type can also apply to workflow. But if I want to use a content type at the document library level, isn't it same as a view?
Thanks so much for your help!
Lili
Hi Lily2020,
Content Types store the metadata and Views show the metadata.
Does that make sense?
I hope this helps.
