SharePoint: modern team site if not group enabled

Good Day

Currently due to governance and other internal controls we do not have available self site provisioning. At the same time the creation of O365 Groups is restricted and we are SharePoint Admins cannot create Modern Team Sites tied with O365 Groups.  There is on the O365 Roadmap a feature that apparently will allow in creating Modern Team Sites without the https://products.office.com/en-US/business/office-365-roadmap?filters=&featureid=31070.  I have been trying without success in getting more details on this topic as I am looking to understand what steps and when we need to follow up for creating a non O365 tied Modern Team Site. Thank you!

You can already create a fully modern site with existing classic sites. The pages you can create are modern and you can set that page as a home page etc. then make sure either you change your default experience for sites to modern or you can set it on a per list basis.

You do miss out of group enabled web parts but other than that everything else Sharepoint wise should work fine.

    • Totally agree with Chris here and also bear in mind that you can extend your sites when you need it with your custom stuff
