SharePoint is missing "Move to..." option. "Copy to..." is still available.

Dear Tech Community,

one of our SharePoint sites is setup to function as a archive.

There is a library called "Inbox" where archived projects are moved to and from there on they get prepared and final moved into a library called "Archive".

Currently we have the issue, that two projects aren't moveable, but they still can be copied:

Other folders going through the same workflow are moveable:

First I thought, that the workflow moving the folders into the "Inbox" messed something up. But after trying several scenarios I was able to exclude the possibility of the workflow messing something up.

I'm also the owner of this site and library, I have no clue how I can't have the permission to move a folder. Copying isn't an option, due to loss of document history.

Can someone help?

Thank you, best regards

Saša

We were two people having the exact same issue on the same folders.

    But we found a workaround.

We were able to move the folders by accessing the SharePoint classic experience and moving the folders using Drag & Drop. We were using MS Edge, I don't know if this is important for ActiveX or something like this, since it's not used in the newer version anymore.

But that works for us. Anyways, thank you for your time!

    Best regards

I understand you could not find the Move to option from a specific library called "Inbox"

May I know if you are trying to move a file from a document library web part or document library itself?

You could go to "Site contents" > Click on document library > select file and click on more button ... and see if it allow you to move files

Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes, I'm inside of the library. The weird thing is, that this issue only applies to a few folders. Others witch I created using the same workflow are moveable. I tested running the workflow with admin accounts and default accounts (Run-only could've messed up something, but it didn't)

Since you are sure the folder are not being viewed as a document web part as shown below

From the screenshot you have option like see all which a mark in Red box when a viewing in document web part

If that is not the case, then Is most likely a permission issue and it shows the folders has a unique permission. I have run a test with a folder in my environment and observed the only reason why you may not have the “move to” is when you have read permission on a file or folder.

        Find below test run

From my test, you could only be restricted if you only have read permission on the affected folder.

I would like you to check the permissions on the affected folders and compare with the working folders

See screenshot below on how to check permission of specific file or folder.

I will advise using another user with owner permission to check the permission on the affected folders. Then look out for visitor group and check if your name is there.
