SharePoint folder "modified" date not accurate

I agree, this is a basic feature and should work just like Windows folder structure. A work around that i do is, once i upload a new file to a folder, i rename the folder by adding a character, save it and then rename it again by deleting that character, so leaving the original folder name, but it will now show the correct date. I know it's extra work, but it's the only work around I've come up with.
