Sharepoint comment permissions by users
Hi,
Is it possible to restrict specific user accounts from being able to add comment on pages?
Hi b_oconnor ,
Afraid not, comments are either on or off for all users that can reads the page.
Hope that helps.

Yes, it is possible,
Manage permissions at the page level or library level. Here's how:Page Level Permissions:
Go to the SharePoint page where you want to restrict comments.
Click the gear icon (Settings) and select "Page permissions."
Identify the specific user account you want to restrict.
Change their permission level to "Read" or a custom permission level that does not include the right to add comments.
Library Level Permissions:
If comments are enabled on documents within a library, you can manage permissions at the library level.
Go to the library.
Click the gear icon (Settings) and select "Library settings."
Under "Permissions for this document library," you can manage user permissions similarly to page permissions. - Carl420-collabCopper Contributor
Managing Comment Permissions in SharePoint
In SharePoint, admins can control who can view, add, edit, or delete comments.
How to Set Comment Permissions:
- Go to Site Settings → Site Permissions.
- Manage Permissions under Advanced Permissions Settings.
- Disable Comments via Page Details or Library Settings if needed.
Permission Levels:
- Read: View only
- Contribute: Add/edit own comments
- Edit: Modify/delete all comments
- Full Control: Manage permissions

🔹 Today Top Magazine - Timo_SchuldtBrass ContributorHello,
is it still not possible to grant individual comment permissions per user?
Thanks.Timo_Schuldt Unfortunately, No.
The behavior is still same for commenting on site pages. Users with Read permissions can add comments on site pages.
Related: It is possible to manage permissions for list item comments using item permissions. Users with Read permissions on list items, cannot add new comments.
