Sharepoint backup

Hi

I have a document library on SharePoint site online and would like to know if I need backup to keep my files safe?  I saw in my Library Settings that versioning is turned on. I know there is a 93 days retention policy for deleted items but just to be sure, I would like some suggestions please?

Thx

  • You can create a custom retention policy for the document library or the entire site collection if you want. To create a retention policy, follow the steps provided in this excellent article series by Joanne Klein: https://joannecklein.com/2020/03/25/retention-in-sharepoint-online-the-where/

retention policy works in most cases. If you need a more professional backup tool, check Veeam or CubeBackup.

  • Microsoft's theory is that you don't need backup....but in case you need, there are third party products that might help here

      jcgonzalezmartin Thanks for the clarification.

We can also do a download and "Always keep on this device" via OneDrive to get a backup I suppose.
