SharePoint 2013 search crawl and search engine friendly URLs

We have an issue with search crawl on SharePoint 2013. Content pages are crawled normally during continuous crawls and it takes couple of minutes to appear in search index. Continuous search interval is set to three minutes. Search engine friendly URLs of crawled content pages might take more than an hour to appear in search index.. I think also incremental crawl won't speed up SEF url indexing either.

Is this normal behaviour of search crawls?

  • Matti Paukkonen, Continuous crawls set to 3 minutes could be a dangerous thing to do.

Not sure if this is still a problem, but in the past I've seen search hanging up.

In the past I've seen crawlers taking longer than the crawling period to pick up all new content and the processing unit of search not being able to keep up.

    Anyway back to your question.

You will probably need to adjust the schedules for the timer jobs responsible for the friendly Urls as well. Not sure if I would recommend this though.

Hi Matti, did you get any further with this?

We are seeing a similar issue with friendly url's only getting picked up sporadically by the search.  We've got continuous crawl's set at 5 minute intervals.

The physical url's are always happily picked up, but only sometimes are the friendly url's crawled.  This even happens in some instances when we run a full crawl and the latest friendly url's aren't indexed.  Then out of no where, they next crawl might pick them up.

Did you figure out the related timer jobs?  The only one I can see that may be related is the 'Taxonomy Update Scheduerl'.

        Regards
        Pete
