Sharepoint - New site -'Could not create group'

Hi,

 

Im trying to create a new teamsite in sharepoint for quite some time and not able to do the same. Not sure what's wrong exactly. It shows this error once I press 'Finish'.

'Couldn't create the group, please go back and try again'

 

can anyone help me how to fix this?

    This is happening to us now as well on one of our Client's tenant site.  Can not  create a communication site, can however create a Team site.  Just started happening after migrating data.  Anyone else have this issue?

      Edit - It does work with good old reliable PowerShell though, should have tried that 1st.  Not sure why it's not working in the Gui right now.

    Team sites are group sites by default now. You need to check to see if your tenant is restricting group creation and if you are allowed to create groups or not.

    Have you tried a communication site? This is a site without a group attached.
