Shared With not listing external emails shared with
I've opened the viewed the file from both the hotmail and the gmail email and there are still no users showing in SharePoint.
When you say "log in" I unchecked the "require login." Would that not require we add every external users as a user in O365? We want to make it simple like OneDrive.
We're still in Classic mode with our SharePoint sites as we'd have to recreate all 10 of them to modern (plus the Execs don't like the 'look' of them yet). What we can do is just open the library in the modern view to Copy To which will give us both options.
Thank you for that as I was wondering where the Copy To was!
So basically you have to use require login if your using classic. I'm not sure if they updated the backend on that to use the "Code" method, but you don't have to setup guest accounts, they just have to use a Microsoft Account if it's using the old method. You will have to test it. But that is definatley your problem because you have to require a login so it knows who's actually accessing the link!

If I open the doc library in the modern view, I have the same OD options ie Anyone or Specified People which don't require a MS account. I shared it with my gmail in the modern site, I even opened the file from my gmail account and still no users listed in the sharing (had to actually click on share then advanced as there is not easy option like classic to view sharing).

If you've already shared with your gmail and it's a guest account in your tenant, you have to login as that account when clicking the link, so you have to make sure your opening that link in-private browser so your not accessing the link as your already logged in 365 user that is yourself.
Only way you will get the code using the "specific people option" assuming you used that option? is if that user isn't already listed as a guest in your tenant. Otherwise they have to login using their MSA account they used before to access resources, but this is where the whole "In-private" comes in if your the one doing the testing.- luvsqlJun 22, 2018Iron Contributor
Classic
Click on File then click on the Share button, enter email address (it warns me the email is outside of the organization), I uncheck require login, then send. I can open the file on my phone from the email . See attached.
Modern
Click on the file then share. Select "only the people you specify will have access to view" (just like I do in OD) and send. I can view the file on my phone without requiring a login. This should behave just like OneDrive and should not require a MS account. This defeats the whole point of sharing externally as we cannot expect everyone to be with Microsoft.

Actually found it, you need to use Get Link in Classic UI and use restricted. This sends the Code out to them to access the file via e-mail, then you will get a "Viewed" mark similar to specific people option from OneDrive.
