Share link not created when sending to users

I've noticed a change in how links are created, specifically when the option to send a link is selected.

It looks like a bug to me, not a feature. Has anyone seen documentation, updates or known issues about this?

Steps:

  1. Share a selected file using 'People you specify' or 'People in [your org]'
  2. Add users
  3. Select Send
  4. User is emailed standard email and link to document
  5. User is added to 'Manage access' under people and given direct access
  6. No link is created under "Links"

Happening on multiple Australian tenants.

When created using 'Copy link' or 'Send link in Outlook' the link is created under the 'Links' tab in Manage access - as per normal behaviour.

This change was announced in Message center updates. Microsoft retired the legacy SharePoint Invitation Manager and the SPO Site Sharing will now use Azure B2B Invitation Manager. As per Microsoft article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/solutions/microsoft-365-guest-settings?view=o365-worldwide

      Thanks for the reply.

Whether or not a link is created appears to be inconsistent depending on what action is selected ('Copy link', 'Send link in Outlook' or Send). I'm not sure if that would be related to Azure B2B Invitation Manager. What ever the mechanism, you would hope it's consistent.

However, I did just test with an external email address and a link was created when using Send. More inconsistencies 🤨
