Set image focal point not working

When adding an image header to a SharePoint page, the "Set image focal point" is not working. Instead, it crops the image, and users are not able to control what part of the image is displayed in the header. I am wondering if this is a temporary glitch? Otherwise, there might not be a reason to have this button available in SharePoint in the first place.

Anyone else experiencing this? I've just noticed it this week, but my colleague says this has been how header images work in her system for weeks.

Thank you for posting - I thought it was only us.

Image web part still has the feature working still - we've used that as the workaround to resize and reuse the image within SharePoint

Yes, moving the focal point just does nothing now. I've wasted a lot of time dealing with this issue on our many SharePoint sites - hope it is addressed soon.

Same issue here, just started yesterday. SharePoint is also auto-cropping and creating new images in these cases, and adding them to a new automatically created folder in the Site Assets library. Before this week, it would always just point to the original image and not create new images or folders.

Same here for a few days. It is cropping the image to the point there's nothing left outside of the crop to move the focal point to. I'm having to resort to pre-editing the images to fix the shape of the header.

I assume this is yet another undocumented bug, something I'm see more and more of.
