Saving Mapped files to sharepoint
I am with a K12 school Board and in the process of migrating out users that use mapped drive files to SharePoint, just wondered if anyone has run into these issues and if there are any solutions. 1. Users have excel spreadsheet that have embedded linked in the spreadsheet and when we try to migrate these files to SharePoint it breaks the links. Is there a process or tool that is available to do the migration smoother. 2. Some users use GIS program and it seems the GIS files when moved to SharePoint is not recognized, is there a workaround for this or do we have to keep these files on the mapped drive location? 3. Some users would like the Autosave feature be turned off when they are in an excel document to avoid any confliction or other users changing the document at the same time.

Here are some suggestions: 1- For Excel spreadsheet links, consider using "Find and Replace" in Excel to update links before migrating to SharePoint. Third-party migration tools like ShareGate or Metalogix can also handle complex migrations and preserve embedded links. 2 - Specialized file formats like GIS files may not be recognized in SharePoint. Keep those files on the mapped drive or in a dedicated document management system for GIS files. 3 - Users can manually disable Autosave in Excel on a per-document basis by saving the file locally. No changes in SharePoint are required. Provide user training and documentation to help users adapt to SharePoint and minimize issues during the migration. Test the migration process thoroughly and involve stakeholders.
