Replacing a never-used classic root site with always & currently-used modern site
- Aug 16, 2024
Hello ITpadawan
the site swap will replace your existing site with your new, all will be replacing, also the permission, that means, when you have permissions on your modern site, the site will be replace 1:1 the existing site. The root site it's not hierarchically, the M365 world are flat.
After the site swap, you can enjoy your modern experience as root site.

I am just learning about SharePoint in detail but I would need a direct and simple answer (image as talking to a five-year-old, if you will). If I modernize the root site companyname.sharepoint.com, what happens to the other sites, e.g., companyname.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename, we have several of them? Does their content remain intact? nothing gets deleted, etc.?
