Sharepoint Webparts
I'm in a small business and use the Hub site as a company portal to our team sites via megamenu. We have department and project team sites. All sites are associated with the hub. Each dept has acc...
- Feb 03, 2019News web parts use the logged in persons search index so it requires permissions on anything you want to roll up. So you might be able to get by with just adding permissions to the site pages library on the sites but this will give access to other pages too but not any content web parts that might be on them.
What I’ve always done is have a SharePoint communication site for departments for org facing information and files threat the whole org can access them a Team with associated SharePoint site joined to the hub for private news and files for the department. And then add tabs in teams to the Org sites files etc. for single access. It worked well.
Anyway hope this helps.

Yep, totally agree...if you want to surface news and events to the users, they need to have acecss to them...otherwise, as expected, the won't have access to them and not see them in those webparts

Thanks for the reply, it sounds like in order for the company to see HR News I would have to grant everyone in the company access to HR. That is a non-starter due to sensitive data. There has to be a way to surface news/events without granting everyone access to everything?
- Feb 03, 2019I had naming schemes for my sites. My org facing sites were all comm sites mostly and they had stand along names. In your case “Human resources” their private site and all other private sites were always suffixed with Team. So their private site / Team was Human Resources Team. All other departments followed that. information Technology comm site with everyone read that contained news and how to docs , contacts , emergency hotline info etc. anything everyone needed on it connected to the hub do need rolled up. Then a private Team(connected to Team site) called Informstion Technology Team. Private to IT joined to hub as well so news could also roll up so people in IT could see news pop on homepage etc.
- Feb 03, 2019When you build pages for news articles. All the content you add / pictures etc. will all be stored on that site mostly. Unless you create news articles all from internet links and text then you could just give access to the news articles (site pages) library as I was saying. Otherwise they have to have permission to the site to see the content in the news articles.
Hence why I recommend having communication sites with everyone having permission separate from their private information sites. Give HR owner permission to the comm site do they can design and add news. Then connect this to the hub so it rolls up. Now you have a public or org facing entity that everyone can see and you set that boundary for HR.
