Promote page doesn't include Query String

We have some pages that we would like to promote via Email within SharePoint that require the Query String to be included in the "promotion".  An example could be something like 

.../SitePages/item-detail.aspx?itemId=80

item-detail.aspx is a page containing a web part which responds to the itemId=XX to display a specific item.

The option to copy the address includes the query string but, when using send via email, the query string is removed.

Does anyone have any idea how to include the query string?
