Posting news no longer generates email or push notifications

Normally on SharePoint when we create a news post and publish it, the users following that site would get an email and push notification of the new post. 

Since the beginning of this week (06/08/2020) this seems to have completely stopped. Through testing we have seen that if you tag someone in the comments that user will then receive an email and notification.
