Posting news article not sending notification to Teams activity feed
The standalone site is not guaranteed to generate a Teams activity notification merely because it publishes SharePoint news. Microsoft documents these alerts as Viva Connections news notifications, and delivery depends on conditions such as the Viva Connections app being installed, the reader following the site or working closely with the author, access to the post, audience targeting, Teams notification settings, and quiet hours. The hub results you observe may reflect follows or user relationships rather than the hub connection. For a test, grant the same test users access, have them follow the standalone site, publish a new non-targeted post, and confirm their Teams Viva Connections notification category and quiet hours. If Viva Connections is not deployed, there is no supported switch that forces every SharePoint news post into the Teams activity feed. Use the post’s built-in sharing options, email, or a Teams channel announcement when guaranteed distribution is required.

Thanks for your reply Jamony
'The hub results you observe may reflect follows or user relationships rather than the hub connection.' but I am personally receiving news notifications for sites that I don't visit in the intranet hub. So this is not making sense.
And for a test, I can't add a test page from a stand alone site and give the whole org access and send a test news post. Not a good look.
Also when I target an audience for a news post, I would expect users receive a notification in their activity feed - after all, they have been targeted. But this is not the case. My targeted audience testing just meant they could see the article and others (who weren't targeted) could not after I sent users a direct link to the home page of the site.
Surely there is more documentation about this. It sounds very hit and miss. What you are suggesting is that I have to ask the whole org to follow the site?
If there is a Viva Connections deployed, will they receive the news post in their Teams activity feed then?
