poeple search results include external contacts
I have not noticed this previously, but people search results on SharePoint now include external contacts.
These seem to be contacts from the whole organisation and not just the ones I know.
For example I search for UK and I see all email addresses ending in .uk
Why would n external contact listed under the people picker in the search results?
- IMHO this works as expected since external users are also being pushed to the SPO user profiles so in a standard search configuration (the one that come out of the box) I would expect to get also external users when searching for people
I hadn't noticed external contacts before and Delve and SharePoint show different results, with Delve not listing external contacts.
In addition one of these contacts pops right up under our CEO, this makes explaining a little harder why...
As long as you can't refine your search out of the box e.g. by location or a particular skill and the search includes everything it is not very intuitive for the end user why someone else's contact shows up in a search result. This makes people just that bit messier...
When you share externally to a specific user, an account is created for that user in the admin system.
The people picker is looking at the UPN not the class of the account.
