PnP modern Search

I am working to improve an intranets search page and in that relation I am trying to do make an upgrade to our current Out of the Box search engine using the PnP modern Search Engine. Is it possible to deploy templates from the OOTB engine and then add additional upgrades. 

If not is there some similar templates to deploy.
