    As per my understanding:

    1. You first created a "SharePoint" group in team site
    2. Then added Office 365 group inside the "SharePoint" group as member

    Is this understanding correct?

Anyway, when you create a new SharePoint group in your site, it does not get permissions on your SharePoint site automatically, you have to grant the permissions to your SharePoint group manually. You have to make sure you have granted permissions to the group correctly.

Follow below steps after creating a new SharePoint group:

    1. Go to SharePoint Site Permissions page. Generally URL of page is like: <siteUrl>/_layouts/15/user.aspx
    2. Select Permissions tab and click on Grant Permissions option:
    3. Search for your SharePoint group name, select required permissions level and click on Share button:
    4. Then add Office 365 group inside your SharePoint site group.
