News Web Part not displaying thumbnail

I have a news web part that is not displaying the thumbnails for some news pages.

There is a related article here but this article does not show a fix.

Same with this one.

The photos will show up when I first log in and check the site in the AM but after refreshing or naving away and coming back they disappear. 

Thoughts on this?
