News From Sites, Sharepoint Button

SharePoint Home is coming to replace this Default landing page. Once that happens you'll be able to customize the page how you want technically. Check out SharePoint home at SPC19.

Not currently. There is a uservoice open for the ability to customise the Home Page which Microsoft has marked that it is thinking about

There is also one explicitly for removing news from the top which is currently unanswered but would be covered in the above

And one to disable the create news link on the home page

So I would vote on these to keep track and push them up the agenda. An alternative in the meantime may be to create a Home Site

This may give a cleaner experience to the landing in SharePoint. However, if not and you still want the default home page then it may be some time yet before you get the ability to change it.
