Navigation Term Set with terms that have child terms will not display in the Global Navigation of th

I have a Navigation Term Set with terms that have child terms that I use to display menus with sub-menus on the Global Navigation of my Modern Team site collection.  Some time ago, the menus and the sub-menus, stopped displaying on the Global Navigation if the terms had child terms.  If I remove the child terms then the top parent term will show up in the navigation.  Can anyone confirm that this issue is known or being addressed?

I was told to post my inquiry to the TechCommunity by a Microsoft representative at the SPNA Conference last month but there has been no response in almost a month.
